A downloadable game for Windows

In this party game experience inspired by the Jackbox Party Pack series, you and your friends (each playing the role of a school student) must work together to complete your classroom's 'Hall of Fame', as you are provided with a menagerie of outlandish superlative titles to award each other democratically.  Over the course of 3 rounds you will be tested on how well you know your peers as you try to correctly anticipate the general consensus as to who among you is the most worthy of each title, both in nominating the right players and in voting with the majority.

Each game, you will be given a random set of titles to work with, out of nearly 200 titles in total: all to keep you and your friends coming back for more!  Also, feel free to role play (everyone plays as a fictional character, celebrity, etc.) if you ever get bored of playing normally!

Game options include:

  • Minimum/maximum player count for each session
  • Audience feature - allows audience members to vote if enabled
  • Mature prompts - enabling this feature will throw a handful of spicy prompts into the mix which will be great for an all-adult group
  • Twitch login requirement - this will apply to players if enabled, however audience members will still be able to join without logging in

This project was developed using the Hackbox web service and Hackbox Unity package.

SETTING UP

This game can be played either in person (all players and host are in the same room) or remotely.

To play, the game only needs to be run on a single device (preferably one with a large screen such as a desktop or laptop): referred to as the 'host' device.  The host screen must be displayed to all players throughout the entire game, so you will need to organise a way of managing this.  If playing in person, a TV screen or projector will work great.  For remote sessions, you can share the host screen with players via Zoom, Discord, or Twitch, though there will be plenty of alternative methods as well.

Each player needs to have their own device - either a phone, tablet, or PC will do.

After the host has created a room, a 4-letter room code will be displayed on the host screen.  Now, those who are playing must go to Hackbox.ca via a web browser on their devices.  The screen should look like this:

On the website, you will need to enter the room code and a name for yourself, then you can press the PLAY button and connect.  Your name should appear in the lobby.

During gameplay, each player's device acts as a controller which will allow them to interact with the game when prompted.  The screen of their device should be kept hidden from all other players.  Because of this, a smaller device such as a phone works best when playing in person.

If the game has started or the lobby is full (maximum number of players are already in), anyone else who tries to join will be placed in the audience.  Audience members do not technically compete, but they can influence the outcome by voting alongside players (provided the audience feature is enabled).

After the game ends, the host can either choose to play again with the same players, disconnect all players and start a new lobby, or disconnect and return to the main menu.
