This meta-game was developed for the Cozy Fall Jam 2023, with the theme being: less is more.  It ended up ranking 9th in the Presentation category and 12th overall, which we're all extremely proud of considering nearly 200 entries were submitted to the jam in total!

After some brief brainstorming when the jam started, we were fortunate enough to think of an idea that made the whole team nod with enthusiasm.  Even then, it was a messy development cycle, with insanely different time zones, and one of our coders even going hiatus out of the blue.  Regardless, we still went all out with this submission and enjoyed it every step of the way.

Overall, I am extremely proud of what my talented teammates were able to achieve in just 72 hours, and this jam was definitely an experience I won't forget!

(Note: we pondered the title of this game well into development and even changed it after uploading the final build: hence a different name appearing in the main menu.  Rejected titles included: 'Fall Zero Fall', 'Shock and Autumn', 'Breaking the Fourth Fall', 'Autumeta: A Jammer's Wrath', 'Fall or Nothing', and at least half a dozen others.)

What Skullbuns said, plus I enjoyed the frequent fourth wall breaks! At the beginning of the labyrinth I was afraid it would feel a little grindy, as there were 48 items to collect, but I was wrong. It was a very fun game, and full of humor!

Thank you!  It took me about 2 hours to design the maze and where all the assets would be.  Our team has plans to expand on this game after the rating finishes, with additional stages and more gameplay variety to break up the monotony of the collectathon affair.

I had to write this in a notepad whilst playing because there is so much I want to say about this game! The meta humour just in the intro alone is absolutely brilliant, and the concept of the game is also really clever!

[Spoiler warning I suppose]

The slow evolution after collecting certain amounts of assets is very cool and, whilst the maze gameplay can be a bit repetitive, this and the words and pictures scattered within the design of the maze itself do help keep it interesting! The music is lovely and works well with the game being ‘rebuilt’ as each instrument comes in.

Huge congrats to the team to getting this out in such a short timeframe!! If you are out there Demyanovich ‘Devi’ Winifred Ferdinand Vinogradov-Saunders, I ‘hope’ you get the credit you so truly ‘deserve’!

p.s if you were not aware the theme was optional but I think its a good think you followed it if not!

Glad you enjoyed! There are many things we coukd do to improve the game, but we are very proud of what we achieved within the time.

The theme might be optional but i still think it's an important part of the jam that should be taken into account. If we didn't have a theme, we could do whatever we want before the time period and nobody will notice, that takes away part of the challange.

That's probably the origin of all this story, we were working on a few tools of possible ideas before the jam and when the theme was announced we had to throw most of it to the recycle bin.

Then we found this leaf thibg talking to us about some guy called "Devi" and showed us a buch of things inside the recycle bin which we used to make the game. Now we just hope Demyanovich never finds this project. :)

wow great idea. especially the search felt very satisfying when it completed the environment.

Thank you, we worked really hard on this!
