Quizzi-Cubby!
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Font Assets:
In this party game experience inspired by the Jackbox Party Pack series, you and your friends must compete to see who can score the most points choosing correct cubbies. For each category, you must choose a cubby from a set. Choose a correct cubby and you'll score, but if any other players picked the same cubby then you'll have to share the points.
Tip: press the Esc key at any time during gameplay to end the game and return to the main menu.
This project was developed using the Hackbox web service and Hackbox Unity package.
Note: trivia answers were generated with AI for some categories.
SETTING UP
This game can be played either in person (all players and host are in the same room) or remotely.
To play, the game only needs to be run on a single device (preferably one with a large screen such as a desktop or laptop): referred to as the 'host' device. The host screen must be displayed to all players throughout the entire game, so you will need to organise a way of managing this. If playing in person, a TV screen or projector will work great. For remote sessions, you can share the host screen with players via Zoom, Discord, or Twitch, though there will be plenty of alternative methods as well.
Each player needs to have their own device - either a phone, tablet, or PC will do.
After the host has created a room, a 4-letter room code will be displayed on the host screen. Now, those who are playing must go to Hackbox.ca via a web browser on their devices. The screen should look like this:
On the website, you will need to enter the room code and a name for yourself, then you can press the PLAY button and connect. If the Twitch login feature is enabled by the host, you will also need to login with Twitch to join. Once you have connected, your name should appear in the lobby on the host screen.
During gameplay, each player's device acts as a controller which will allow them to interact with the game when prompted. The screen of their device should be kept hidden from all other players. Because of this, a smaller device such as a phone works best when playing in person.
If the game has started or the lobby is full (maximum number of players are already in), anyone else who tries to join will be placed in the audience. Audience members do not play a role in this game: they are only spectators.
After the game ends, the host can either choose to play again with the same players, disconnect all players and start a new lobby, or disconnect and return to the main menu.
